1st Calderon Cup showcases Cebu’s aspiring hoopsters
ASPIRING basketball players from the 7th District of Cebu are set to wage war against each other as the inaugural Calderon Cup Inter-Town 21-Under Basketball Tournament fires off on March 21 in Dumanjug town.
With opening just a few weeks away, the seven municipalities belonging to the province’s seventh district submitted their respective lineups during the coordination meeting on Friday, Feb. 20, at the Moalboal Municipal Hall.
The competing municipalities are Dumanjug, Ronda, Alcantara, Moalboal, Badian, Alegria, Malabuyoc, and Ginatilan.
Christopher Co, representing Dumanjug, said the town is all set to host the keenly awaited opening, which will be graced by 7th District Rep. Patsy Calderon and the district mayors.
The tournament is part of Calderon’s grassroots sports development program.
Ushering in the tournament is the parade of teams anf the selection of best muse.
The eight competing are divided into two groups: Bracket A and Bracket B.
Teams belonging to the same bracket will play in a double round-robin format in the eliminations. The No. 1 teams in each bracket will automatically advance to the semifinals. The No. 2 and No. 3 teams will duke it out in the crossover quarterfinals to complete the Final Four cast.
The organizing committee, led by its chairman Atty. Ramil Abing, commissioner Jun Migallen, and deputy commissioner Rey Canete, announced that trophies and cash prizes will be given to the top finishers.(CCM)
