TWO engineering graduates from Cebu were among the top 10 passers in the April 2025 Civil Engineers Licensure Examination.

Pomelo Piolo Pablo Silawan of the Cebu Institute of Technology – University (CIT-U) clinched 6th place with a rating of 91.85 percent, while John Frazer Venzal Cruz, also from CIT-U, followed closely in 8th place, posting a score of 91.55 percent.

The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) released the results on Wednesday, May 7, listing the top 10 passers out of thousands of examinees nationwide.

Carlos Miguel Fabon Mariano of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila topped the exam with a score of 93.00 percent.

Silawan and Cruz’s feat also follows an earlier success by Cebu schools in the November and December 2024 Civil Engineers Licensure Examination, where four graduates from the province secured top 10 positions.

That batch was led by Francis Charles Pepito Lauta from the University of Cebu, who topped the board with a remarkable 93.25 percent, the highest rating for that cycle.

He was joined by Rodolfo Guanzon Misa Jr. from the University of San Carlos (USC), who ranked 8th with 91.50 percent, and two others — Lorenzo Rafael Arcamo Langbid of USC and John David Jerusalem Maguate of CIT-U — who tied for 10th place with 91.15 percent.

Together, these achievements highlight not just individual brilliance but the steady rise of Cebu-based universities as centers for engineering excellence.

The back-to-back presence of Cebuano topnotchers in two consecutive board exam cycles demonstrates a strong academic foundation and a culture of discipline and ambition among the region’s engineering students.

In recent years, Cebu schools have made consistent efforts to strengthen their engineering programs through enhanced curriculum, upgraded facilities, industry linkages, and review support.

The April 2025 topnotchers list also includes graduates from premier institutions such as the University of the Philippines-Diliman, De La Salle University-Manila, Mapúa University, and Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology, reflecting the diverse pool of talent across the country.(TGP)
