LICENSED engineers and architects are all set to battle once more in the Architects+Engineers Basketball Association (A+EBA) 9th Corporate Cup.

The tournament was scheduled to kick off on Saturday night, April 25, at the University of San Carlos Downtown Campus Gym in Cebu City.

All 10 teams were slated to see action in the opening day of the tournament spearheaded by A+EBA President Engr. Wilson Bas Villanueva, past president Alan Choachuy, Vice President (VP) for Operations Josephril Partosa, VP for Membership Robert Wamilda, and Treasurer Roy Rendon.

The participating teams are Sinclair, Davies Paints, Johnro, RELLM, EGS, Avantrac, Dextructures, CBM, Fenestram, and Sports & Play.

Teams will play in a single round robin format in the elimination round with the Top 8 teams advancing to the quarterfinal round.

Top 2 quarterfinalists will enjoy twice-to-beat bonuses against their respective lower-ranked foes.

In a bid to bring the tournament closer to its members and supporters, games will now be livestreamed on social media, said Villanueva during the tournament’s press launch on Friday, April 24.

“Every year, we’ve been doing this successfully, so hopefully in our ninth year, it will be more exciting and successful,” Villanueva said.

Choachuy said the tournament has become so succesfull as it provides A+EBA members an avenue to foster camaraderie and share technology.

“The purpose of this is really to build camaraderie among professionals. In the construction industry, architects, engineers, and suppliers need to work together. Basketball becomes our venue to share valuable insightssaid Choachuy said.

Partosa, on the other hand, said the success of the league can also be attributed to strict enforcement of rules that help keep the integrity of the games intact.

Partosa said measures are in place to make sure that only those who can play are architects and engineers duly licensed by the Professional Regulation Commission.(CCM)
