RESIGNATION may have relieved Manuel Bonoan of his post as chief of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), but it won’t exempt him from facing lawmakers over alleged irregular flood control projects.

Bicol Saro Party-list Rep. Terry Ridon, co-chair of the House Infrastructure Committee, confirmed on Sunday, Aug. 31, that Bonoan will still be asked to attend the panel’s inquiry—this time as a private citizen.

“Former secretary Bonoan will still be invited to the Infra Comm hearing, and an invitation will be given to incoming DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon. We thank Secretary Bonoan for his service and wish him well in his future endeavors,” Ridon said in a statement to House reporters, as quoted by Manila Bulletin.

Bonoan’s exit and the appointment of Dizon as his successor were both announced Sunday afternoon. The leadership change comes as the DPWH faces intense scrutiny over alleged anomalous and “ghost” flood control projects.

According to Ridon, the committee will push through with its initial hearing on Tuesday, Sept. 2. The session will center on the President’s site inspections of substandard projects in Bulacan and the awarding of billion-peso flood control contracts to undercapitalized firms.

The Infrastructure Committee operates as a joint effort of three House panels: Public Accounts led by Ridon, Good Government and Public Accountability headed by Manila 3rd District Rep. Joel Chua, and Public Works and Highways chaired by Surigao del Sur 1st District Rep. Romeo Momo Sr.(MyTVCebu)
