THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) has released an amended calendar of activities for the December 1, 2025 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE), affirming that the polls will push through as scheduled despite pending proposals to delay them.
In its updated schedule, Comelec moved the voter registration period to August 1 to 10, 2025, from the previously announced July 1 to 11.
The 10-day registration will cater to new voters, transferees, and applicants for reactivation, correction of entries, or inclusion in the voter’s list.
The poll body will also accept applications for transfer from foreign service posts and updates for vulnerable sectors such as PWDs, senior citizens, and Indigenous Peoples.
From August 1 to 7, the Special Register Anywhere Program (SRAP) will be implemented in selected areas including NCR, Region II, and Region IV-A.
During the same period, online filing of applications for reactivation and updating of voter records will be allowed.
The filing of Certificates of Candidacy (COC) will take place from October 1 to 7, including weekends. Comelec reminded aspirants that premature campaigning remains prohibited until November 19, with the official campaign period set for November 20 to 29.
The election period, including the nationwide gun ban, will be enforced from October 27 to December 31.
On the eve of election day, November 30, campaigning and the sale of liquor will be strictly prohibited.
On December 1, early voting from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. will be allotted for senior citizens, PWDs, and pregnant women, followed by regular voting from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The last day to file the Statement of Contributions and Expenditures (Soce) is December 31.
Comelec Cebu Provincial Election Supervisor Atty. Marchel Sarno earlier confirmed that the elections will proceed despite congressional proposals to postpone the BSKE to October 2026 or extend barangay officials’ terms to six years.
He emphasized the importance of participating in the registration process and encouraged voters not to wait until the last day.
“Mubo ra ni siyang panahona mao’ng take this time, ayaw paabota og last day sa registration kay atong capacity dili ingon ana kadako,” Sarno said.
Sarno also noted that barangay elections tend to draw intense public interest, given the personal nature of local contests.
“Tungod kay ang kontra ani mga silingan, paryente, so we expect mas personal ang contest sa BSKE,” he said.(MyTVCebu)
