FALSE claims suggesting that former President Rodrigo Duterte has been granted interim release from the International Criminal Court (ICC) have been circulating online.

But contrary to several social media posts, the ICC has not issued any ruling on Duterte's request for interim release.

In a report by PhilStar, the ICC's Pre-Trial Chamber is still reviewing Duterte's petition, which was filed in June 2025. The court has not set a timeline for a decision.

Duterte's legal team has argued that he is not a flight risk and that his health condition warrants temporary release.

The Philippine government has clarified that it is not involved in the matter and will respect whatever decision the ICC makes.

Despite the absence of an official ruling, some social media posts and videos have falsely claimed that Duterte has been granted interim release. These posts were accompanied with manipulated footage or misleading headlines to spread misinformation.

"Marami rin pong kumalakat na fake news ha napalaya na raw si tatay Digong, wala pa pong ganyang desisyon. Lahat po ng desisyon ay pina-publish po โ€˜yan sa webpage ng ICC,โ€ Former President Spokesperson Atty. Harry Roque said on his Facebook post.

The public was advised to be cautious of unverified information and to seek updates from reputable news outlets and official channels.(Victoria Diana USJ-R Comm Intern)
