A MUDDY river halted the rush of adventure in Badian, southern Cebu.
The municipal government of Badian town in Cebu province has ordered a temporary closure of the popular canyoneering activities and Kawasan Falls on Wednesday, May 28, due to unstable river conditions caused by heavy rainfall the night before.
In an advisory posted on the local government's official Facebook page, "Breathtaking Badian," the town cited a risk to public safety following the rise in water levels and the muddy state of the river.
“Due to the heavy rains experienced last night, the Canyoneering River remains unstable. The water level has risen, and the river currently exhibits a muddy appearance as assessed by Badian Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO)," the post read.
"For the safety of everyone, the Canyoneering activity and Kawasan Falls [are] temporarily closed today (May 28, 2025) until further notice,” they added.
The MDRRMO is continuing to monitor the conditions of the river, according to the same notice. The local government advised the public to stay updated through the MDRRMO's Facebook page.
As of Wednesday morning, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported that there was no active tropical cyclone inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
However, Pagasa noted that a Tropical Cyclone-Like Vortex (TCLV1) is expected to develop in the western part of PAR during the first week of the forecast period, though it currently has a low chance of becoming a tropical cyclone.
Pagasa also forecasted the formation of another TCLV near the northeastern section of Luzon, which is expected to move toward Japan.
Despite these systems, Pagasa emphasized that there is no tropical cyclone threat within the forecast period.
The public, including Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (LDRRMOs), was advised to stay alert for updated forecasts, which are issued every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
