THE road to glory resumes for former world champion Jerwin Ancajas when he battles an Uruguayan opponent on August 2 at the Thunder Studios in Long Beach, California.
Ancajas will be battling Ruben Casero in an eight-round encounter which will serve as his stepping stone in his bid to become a world champion again.
“Jerwin will be fighting for his third super bantamweight bout. This is another stepping stone for him to fight for a world title,” MP Promotions president Sean Gibbons said in a report by Manila Bulletin.
Ancajas was supposed to see action in the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao-Mario Barrios fight last Sunday, July 20, at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas Nevada.
Ancajas, however, pulled out from the card. Fortunately for him, a fight with Casero was immediately sealed.
A former IBF world super flyweight champion, the 33-year-old Ancajas is highly rated as he is currently ranked No. 5 by the WBO, No. 6 by the IBF, and No. 8 by the WBA.
Ancajas sports a 36W-4L-2D, 24KOs record. Casero has 13 wins, five by KO, and four losses.
Ancajas has won his last two fights. Before going on a mini streak, the Cavite native Ancajas lost to Takuma Inoue via ninth-round stoppage in their WBA bantamweight title bout last February 2024.(CCM)
