ONE of the biggest political parties in the country is leaning towards not supporting the fresh impeachment complaints against Vice President Sara Duterte.

In a statement, National Unity Party (NUP) said it may not support the impeachment complaint due to the absence of “new and material evidence.”

"Unless compelling new evidence emerges during the course of these hearings that fundamentally alters the factual basis for the impeachment complaint, the NUP will most likely not vote in favor of this measure," it said.

Lawmakers are set to begin reviewing the four impeachment cases on March 2, 2026.

Reacting to NUP’s announcement, Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro stated that lawmakers are free to decide on the impeachment.

“The President and this administration do not control them. Whatever their decision is, most likely, they view it as an action that is good for their party,” said Castro in a Philstar report.

NUP stressed that its 40 members have “not seen the inclusion of new and material evidence that would warrant a departure from issues that have already been the subject of prior inquiries and extensive public hearings.”(Rocelle S. Caparro, BiPSU Comm Intern)
