National pageant aims to empower lesbians

TOMBOY Philippines 2024, the country's first national pageant dedicated to lesbians, was officially launched on September 14 in Quezon City with the introduction of 30 official candidates.

The event, spearheaded by Chit Reyes and supported by Cowee Santos, CEO of Tree House Real Estate and Ventures, aims to celebrate and empower the lesbian community in the Philippines.

In a press conference, Reyes emphasized the pageant's mission to highlight the diverse talents, intelligence, and beauty of lesbians.

Reyes added that the pageant is also “committed to challenging stereotypes and promoting societal acceptance”.

Reflecting on the pageant’s journey, Reyes shared the vision for Tomboy Philippines which is to gain global recognition starting from the Philippines, to demonstrate that equal rights should be accessible to everyone.

For too long, he added, only gay pageants have been prevalent and he thought this is the time to showcase the talents of lesbians.

This year's candidates include:

* Louie Ele (Nueva Ecija)

* Rinoa Nicolas (Binangonan, Rizal)

* Jhan Nanit (Antipolo, Rizal)

* Bana Daranciang (Sta. Rosa, Laguna)

* Rhed Sasaki (Zambales)

* JC Lapitan (Batangas)

* Keith Martin (General Santos City)

* Jhes Remedio (Muntinlupa City)

* Gele Pablo (Navotas City)
