THEY are already assured of a Final Four spot with a twice-to-beat bonus to boot, but the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Baby Jaguars didn’t let up as they nailed a 64-62 win over the University of Cebu Lapu-Lapu Mandaue (UCLM) Webmasters in the high school division of the 24th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) Basketball Tournament on Thursday, November 14, at the Cebu Coliseum.
The victory cemented the Baby Jaguars’ hold of the No. 1 spot, pocketing a ninth win against a solitary loss. USJ-R still has one game left but regardless of the outcome of the match, it is already assured of a spot in the quarterfinal round where it will enjoy a twice-to-beat advantage against a lower-ranked opponent.
While the Baby Jaguars are moving forward, the Webmasters are heading to an early vacation. UCLM is already out of the Final Four race as it fell to eighth place with a 4-6 (win-loss) record.
JV Oringo showed the way for the Baby Jaguars with 18 points, 11 rebounds, two blocks, one steal, and one assist. Oringo’s brilliant all-around performance was highlighted by a hot 8-of-13 shooting from the field.
