LAW enforcers arrested 401 foreign nationals working for a Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) in Pasay City on Wednesday, February 26.
The operation jointly conducted by the local government unit, Philippine National Police, and the Department of Justice also led to the arrest of 52 Filipinos.
Among the arrested were 207 Chinese nationals, 132 Vietnamese, 24 Koreans, 11 Malaysians, 14 Indonesians, 12 Burmese, and one 1 Madagascan.
During the raid, cryptocurrency scams, love scams, investment scams and spamming were uncovered, a report by Philippine Star stated.
The site in question was installed with text blasters, one-time password generators, and cold crypto wallets which are known to be used in scam operations. Viber and Telegram are the apps frequently utilized in these unlawful activities.
Following the raid, the Pasay City Government promptly issued a cease and desist order to shut down the hub’s operation.
