THE University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors kept their Final 4 hopes alive after they escaped the University of the Philippines (UP)-Cebu Fighting Maroons, 67-62, in the men’s basketball tournament of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (Cesafi) Season 25 on Monday night, Nov. 24, at the Cebu Coliseum.
The win enabled USC to stay just outside the “Magic 4”, occupying the fifth spot in the team standings with six wins and five losses. Slightly ahead of the Warriors are the Univerity of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars, who are 6-4 (win-loss).
USC has three games left in its schedule, including a crucial duel with the Jaguas on Nov. 30.
James Paulo Gica led USC’s crucial win by scoring 18 points. He was backed by Kyle Maglinte, Riel Einer Aureo, and Ray James Enriquez, who chipped 12, 11, and 10 markers, respectively.
Aj Delos Reyes scored 13 points, Kent Joshua Cabanlit had 11, and Jayboy Manaloto added 10 for UP-Cebu, which suffered its 10th defeat with only one win to show so far.(CCM)
