VICE President Sara Duterte will attend the preliminary investigation that the Department of Justice (DOJ) preliminary investigation will be conducting in relation to the complaint that was filed by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) against her.

The complaint stemmed from Duterte’s supposed threat to have President Marcos killed.

Duterte received a subpoena from the Office of the Prosecutor and is currently finalizing her response with her legal team, a report by Philstar said.

In a statement to reporters after a campaign sortie in Cagayan de Oro City, Duterte expressed her intention to cooperate with the investigation.

“My lawyer and I have already discussed the counter-affidavit. We’re just finishing it. I will appear [at the DOJ] because I need to take an oath,” Duterte said.

This development comes after Duterte had previously skipped the NBI's invitations to speak during the course of its probe.

She stated that it would not have mattered as the Marcos administration had allegedly predetermined the filing of the complaints.

The Vice President had also expressed skepticism over the fairness of the NBI investigation. She highlighted President Marcos' statement that he would not allow criminal acts to go unpunished, implying that this could influence the outcome of the investigation.

This development adds to the Vice President's legal challenges this year, including her impeachment trial and potential arrest orders from the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The impeachment complaint filed before the House of Representatives involves alleged misuse of confindential and intelligence funds during her term as Secretary of Education.(John Clyron Matillano, CTU-TC Intern)
