A BASKETBALL tournament that seeks to create a harmonious relationship between engineers and architects came off the wraps on Friday, September 20, at the University of San Carlos (USC) Downtown Campus.
The Buildrite Cup 2024 of the Architects and Engineers Basketball Club (AEBC) got underway with 12 teams signing up to vie for basketball glory.
AEBC President Allan Choachuy explained the importance of the Buildrite Cup, saying the tournament is not just purely basketball.
“This is to harmonize and create camaraderie between professionals composed of engineers and architects, because there are instances when these two professions have friction in the field. But with basketball, we use this sport to bridge the gap and build understanding,” said Choachuy in a press briefing on Thursday night, September 19.
Despite a shortened format, the tournament promises to be action-packed as AEBC celebrates its seventh season.
“We will have a shorter season compared to the past, but it is highly competitive just like the league’s previous seasons,” said Josephril Partosa, AEBC Vice President for Operations.
The six squads were divided into two brackets and will play in a single round-robin format. The top four teams in each bracket will advance to the crossover quarterfinals.
Quarterfinal winners will then advance to the semifinals in the tournament supported by Buildrite, EGS Surveying, CBM Engineering, Emerald, Litecrete, Sear Construction, Suprea Phil Development, Gonzalodo Enterprises, Dextructure, and UP Project.
Bracket A is composed of defending champion, Computer Engineers (CompE)-Tofil, alongside Mechanical Engineers A-Smartbond, Civil Engineers 2-Confix, Electrical Engineers-Blockout, Civil Engineers 3-Sapal, and Civil Engineers 5-Kryocrete.
Bracket B has Civil Engineers 1-Stopgap, Mechanical Engineers B-Handyfix, Industrial Engineers-Natica, United Architects of the Philippines (UAP) Sinclair, Civil Engineers 4-Rubberstop, and Civil Engineers 6-Readycrete.(CCM)
