JUNIBERT Bantay vowed not to let his guard down when he battles a fellow unbeaten opponent on Oct. 26 at the San Andres Sports Complex.
The 25-year-old Bantay, the prized ward of the Cebu City-based Chao Sy Boxing Stable, will take on Lienard Sarcon in an undercard of a boxing extravaganza that is part of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of “Thrilla in Manila” anniversary.
“Sa maka-una lang unta. Walay daganay inig duwa, matira ang matibay,” Bantay, the reigning World Boxing Foundation (WBF) Asia Pacific Youth champion, told iSports Ta Bai.
Although no title is at stake in the upcoming, Bantay is determined to go all-out, believing that a victory will further boost his bid to earn bigger fights.
Bantay is unbeaten in nine fights with one win coming by knockout. He is fresh from a unanimous decision win over Japan’s Haruki Miyamoto to snatch his current WBF regional belt.
The 25-year-old Sarcon is one of the country’s rising boxers.
Rust may be a factor for Sarcon as he has not fought since December 24 of last year. He sports a 13-0 record with five knockout victories.
The Bantay-Sarcon duel will be one of the undercard fights of the world title championship between defending International Boxing Federation minimumweight champion Pedro Taduran (18-4-1, 13 KOs) and Cebuano Christian Balunan (12-0, 7 KOs) of the Villamor Boxing Stable and PMI-Bohol Boxing Promotions.(CCM)
