Bohol bars hogs from Negros island
FOR the next 60 days, live pigs, pork, and pork products from the whole island of Negros are banned from entering the province of Bohol.
Bohol Gov. Erico Aris Aumentado issued an Executive Order (EO), prohibiting the entry of live hogs and pork products from Negros Oriental and Negros Occidental starting July 3, 2026, following confirmed cases of African Swine Fever (ASF).
In a video message, Aumentado said the move aimed at protecting the swine industry in the province by enforcing strict border control to ensure no swine from ASF-affected areas will enter Bohol.
Aumentado urged hog raisers, traders, other stakeholders, and the Boholanos to follow the policies imposed against ASF.
Just recently, the Cebu province and Negros Oriental imposed border control measures against the entry of live hogs from ASF-stricken areas.
Cebu Gov. Pamela Baricuatro issued an EO providing preventive and control measures against ASF, wherein strict inspections at seaports and entry points from the Negros Island Region are imposed.
Baricuatro also ordered random inspections to prevent smuggling and authorized the temporary restriction on vehicles and livestock carriers from affected provinces for up to 45 days, subject to extension if needed.
In Negros Oriental, Governor Manuel "Chaco" Sagarbarria issued an EO totally banning the entry of live hogs, pork, pork products, by-products, frozen boar semen, and hog transport vehicles from its neighboring province of Negros Occidental due to the resurgence of ASF cases in the area.
The resurgence of ASF in Negros Occidental caused more than 2,000 hogs to die in 13 local government units due to the outbreak, with most of the pigs buried immediately even without laboratory examination to prevent the disease from spreading to neighboring areas.
ASF is a highly contagious and deadly zoonotic disease affecting both domestic and wild pigs. It can be spread through direct contact from infected bodily fluids, ingestion or through swill feeding, or even on contaminated materials like equipment or footwear.
ASF is not transmissible to humans.(MyTVCebu)
