BRITISH man Vishwashkumar Ramesh, a passenger on an Air India flight, miraculously survived the crash of a London-bound Boeing 787 that claimed the lives of 241 people.

Ramesh was seated in 11A when the plane crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad in western India.

In an interview with BBC News, Ramesh's brother, Nayan Kumar Ramesh, said that Vishwashkumar "has no idea how he survived" and managed to escape the aircraft as the sole survivor.

Air India confirmed the death toll from the crash, stating that 169 Indian nationals and 52 Britons were among those killed.

"It feels great seeing him [Vishwashkumar] doing well," Nayan told the BBC, adding that Vishwashkumar was deeply concerned about their other brother, Ajay, who was also onboard.

Nayan shared that their entire family was in shock and speechless upon hearing the news.

"When he called us, he was just more worried about my other brother, like, 'Find Ajay, find Ajay.' That's all he cares about at the moment," Nayan said, referring to Vishwashkumar, who still cannot explain how he survived and escaped the plane.

Their relative, Jay, described Vishwashkumar's condition as having visible injuries on his face, stained with blood, but said he seemed to be doing well considering what he had been through.

A video circulating on social media showed Ramesh walking toward an ambulance as smoke billowed in the background. He was later seen in a hospital bed during a visit from Indian Interior Minister Amit Shah.

"He was disoriented, with multiple injuries all over his body. But he seems to be out of danger," said Dr. Dhaval Gameti, who treated Vishwashkumar.

According to Indian media, Ramesh shared his boarding pass, which showed his name and seat number. Originally from India, the businessman has lived in the UK since 2003 and is married with a four-year-old son. (Jean Ferlyn Pacabis, PIT Comm Intern)
