Capitol suspends terminal fees for PUVs
THE Cebu Provincial Government has suspended the terminal fees for public utility vehicles (PUVs) entering the Cebu South Bus Terminal and Cebu North Bus Terminal.
Gov. Pamela Baricuatro made the announcement during a press conference at the Capitol on Wednesday, Oct. 21.
The temporary suspension, which will remain in effect until further notice, is among the measures the Capitol is undertaking to ease the financial burden on PUV operators and drivers.
The move is also part of the Cebu Provincial Government's preparation for Kalag-Kalag 2026.
The suspension of the entrance fees was formalized after Baricuatro signed Economic Enterprise Council (EEC) Resolution No. 2026-012.
Before the suspension, entrance fees at the provincial-run terminals were P250 for buses, P200 for van-for-hire (V-hire) vehicles, and ₱P20 for taxis.
Transport groups initially sought assistance from the Capitol amid rising fuel prices that have affected their operating expenses.
This prompted the EEC, chaired by Baricuatro, to discuss the matter and approve the temporary suspension of terminal fees, replacing the initial proposal to reduce the fees at the terminals.
Meanwhile, as part of preparations for the influx of passengers traveling home for All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day, the Capitol is also preparing to deploy buses at the terminals to accommodate vulnerable groups, including persons with disabilities (PWDs), senior citizens, pregnant women, and passengers traveling with children.
"Just like before, naay libreng sakay sa mga PWDs, pregnant and those with children. There's buses nga on-call," Baricuatro said.
The buses will be deployed once long queues are observed at the terminals.
Baricuatro said the comfort rooms would be ready to ensure that passengers have clean and comfortable facilities to use.
The Capitol is also coordinating with the Cebu Police Provincial Office for the deployment of police personnel in various cemeteries to ensure the safety and security on All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day.(MyTVCebu)
