Cavin in, Justin out for Gilas Pilipinas
IT’S final, there will be no Justin Brownlee for Gilipinas in the 20th Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan.
Head coach Tim Cone confirmed that Calvin Oftana is filling the 12th and final slot reserved for Brownlee, who was instrumental when Gilas ruled the tournament’s 2023 edition in Hangzhou, China.
Cone said Oftana was part of the original 30-player list the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas submitted to the Asian Games Organizing Committee but the versatile player was initially not included as he was still recovering from an injury.
The 6-foot-5 forward has since been cleared by doctors, paving the way for his inclusion in Gilas’ Asian Games roster.
Brownlee has been missing in action as he was still recuperating from knee and hamstring injuries.
Apart from Oftana, Gilas also has RJ Abarrientos, Justin Arana, Justine Baltazar, Brandon Bates, Sedrick Barefield, and Robert Bolick.
Completing the team are Adrian Nocum, Don Trollano, and Zavier Lucero.
Gilas will start its back-to-back title bid against Bahrain on Sept. 11.(CCM)
