THE observance of Holy Week in Cebu City was generally peaceful.

The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) said this, noting that no major incidents were recorded during the holding of several religious activities.

Lt. Col. Franco Rodulf Oriol, information officer of CCPO, said the increased police visibility backed by force multipliers contributed to the peaceful observance of the Holy Week.

At least 1,000 policemen were deployed to secure various areas in the city.

Oriol said police assistance desks were put up in bus terminals, major churches, ports, and areas where huge crowds usually converge.

“Sa total assessment nato sa tibuok Semana Santa generally peaceful. Usa sa pinaka peaceful orderly nga semana santa in the history sa Cebu City tungod ni sa strategic deployment sa atung kapulisan ilabi na sa nagka lain-lain nga mga simbahan,” said Oriol.

Incidents reported during the Holy Week included six physical injuries, two burglaries, and nine theft cases.

Oriol added that 18 vehicular accidents and one shooting incident were also recorded.

Overall, the incidents did not affect the peaceful observance of Holy Week, Oriol said.(CDB)
