Cebu LGUs takes safety measures after Tacloban attack
SEVERAL local government units (LGUs) in Cebu province are taking steps toward protecting the safety and welfare of students following the tragic shooting incident in Tacloban City.
In Argao town, residents were reminded of the strict implementation of its Child Rescue Ordinance.
The local law enforces a curfew for minors 18 years old and below, who are barred from loitering in public spaces and business establishments from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.
Parents and guardians are responsible for ensuring their children comply with the ordinance.
Parents and minors violating the law will receive warnings and counseling, while repeat violations may result in community service, fines, and intervention programs from the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO).
Business establishments are also prohibited from allowing minors to stay on their premises during curfew hours. Violations may result in fines ranging from ₱500 to ₱1,000, up to closure of the establishment and cancellation of business permits.
In Moalboal, the LGU reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the law, safeguarding the welfare of its children, and ensuring accessibility of essential services, education, and opportunities.
In Dumanjug, strict security measures were implemented starting Wednesday, June 24, following an emergency meeting called by Mayor Efren "Gungun" Gica with school heads, district supervisors, and other stakeholders.
Gica said all gates will be manned by security personnel conducting inspections of all students, teachers, and staff upon entry to school premises.
Parents and guardians may only enter the campus with authorization from the school administration.
Weapons, sharp objects, firearms, explosives, and other dangerous items are strictly prohibited and will be confiscated if found. A total ban on cellular phones will also take effect starting today.
Gica said that for this week, confiscated phones will be returned after classes but starting next wweek, phones brought inside the school will be confiscated and handled according to school policies.
The LGU also reminded the public of local curfew ordinances prohibiting minors or Grade 10 students and below from loitering in public places starting at 8 p.m., while for those 18 years old and below, the curfew starts at 10 p.m.
Additionally, individuals aged 21 and below are prohibited from smoking and drinking alcohol, purchasing tobacco products and alcoholic beverages, or buying such items on behalf of others.(MyTVCebu)
