THE Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) has started deploying its personnel in various tourist destinations as part of “Operation Plan: Summer Vacation” or “Oplan-Sumvac.”

Lt. Col. Franco Rodulf Oriol, information officer of CCPO, said that after successfully ensuring the peaceful observance of the Holy Week, police in the city have shifted the focus on securing the summer vacation.

Oriol said Oplan-Sumvac started last March 29 and will be in effect until May 31.

Oriol added that personnel who were deployed in religious sites for the Holy Week have been recalled and were redeployed in various tourist destinations.

Among the sites that will be tightly secured are the Magellan’s Cross and Basilica Minore del Santo Niño.

Police visibility will also be increased in hotels, resorts, malls, bus terminals, and ports, Oriol said.

Oriol explained that security in the city has to be tightened as travellers would usually take via Cebu before crossing to island provinces such as Bohol, Leyte, and Negros Island.

Security will be tightened further as the ASEAN-Summit will be held in Cebu in May.(CDB)
