THE Cebu Greats are getting into groove at the most opportune time.

Cebu fanned its hopes of making the playoffs after it racked up three straight wins in the continuing action of the 2025 Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL).

The Greats’ last win was to the tune of a 76-70 spanking of the Pasig MCW Sports on Tuesday night, August 12, at the Nueva Ecija Coliseum.

Before beating Pasig, Cebu scored back-to-back wins against the Marikina Shoemasters, 104-86, and the General Santos Warriors, 100-94.

While the Greats are still currently out of the playoff picture in the Southern Division, the mini streak put them in a good position to clinch a playoff spot.

The Greats sport an 8-15 (win-loss) record–good for 13th place in the team standings. They have to move up to at least 10th spot to advance to the next round.

Cebu is closely trailing Imus, Sarangani, and Davao Occidental. Imus and Sarangani are tied for the 10th and 11 spots with identical 9-13 records while Davao Occidental is at 12th place with eight wins and 13 losses.

One going in Cebu’s favor is its next assignment on Saturday, August 16, will be against a struggling opponent as it will be battling the Bulacan Kuyas, who have the second-worst record in the Northern standings with three wins and 19 losses.(CCM)
