THE race to the Final Four is shaping up to be a tight race. The University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Green Lancers made sure they are in it.

UV fanned their semifinal hopes after they nailed a masterful 127-70 whipping of the Don Bosco Technical College (DBTC) Greywolves in the high school division of the 24th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) Basketball Tournament on Thursday, November 7, at the Cebu Coliseum.

The resounding victory was huge for the Baby Green Lancers as seven teams are jockeying for Final Four spots. The University of San Jose Recoletos Baby Jaguars lead the team standings with seven wins and one loss and are closely followed by the defending champions Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles, who sport a 6-1 (win-loss) record.

UV, the University of Cebu Baby Webmasters, and the Cebu Eastern College Dragons are tied for third to fifth spots with identical 6-2 slates. The surprising Cebu Institute of Technology-University Wildkittens are sixth place with 5-3 record while the University of Southern Philippines Foundation Baby Panthers are also in the semis race with a 4-3 record, good for seventh spot.

Leading UV’s 57-point rout was Roderick Cambarijan Jr., who fired a game-high 23 points on a hot 9-of-12 shooting from the field. He added seven rebounds, one assist, and one steal.

Christophelcian Abellana added 21 points spiked by 5-of-7 clip from three-point area. UV also got 13 and 12 points from John Dela Torre and Jhunrel Dagatan, respectively.

Carmelson Paul Abangan scored 18 points while Angelo Dela Cruz and Jasheed Cyril Ybarra chipped in a combined 26 points for DBTC, which is already out of Final Four contention after dropping to 2-6.(CCM)
