ONE more win and the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles will be raising yet another championship trophy.

The Magis Eagles moved a victory away from a fifth straight title after they clobbered the University of Cebu (UC) Baby Webmasters, 81-65, in Game 1 of their best-of-three championship series in the secondary division of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) Season 25 basketball tournament on Wednesday night, Dec. 10, at the Cebu Coliseum.

Ateneo rode on the hot hands of Lian Kent Basa to complete the win that shoved them closer to a league record-extending ninth title.

Basa caught from the three-point land where he made eight of his 10 attempts en route to finishing with 32 points. He also had four rebounds, four assists, and four steals in a solid all-around game that propelled the Magis Eagles to the critical win.

Ateneo will try to wrap up the series when it faces the same UC Main squad in Game 2 of the series on Friday, Dec. 12, at the above-mentioned venue.

The Magis Eagles have won eight of the leagueโ€™s last 10 championships. No other team has won the championship since 2019. Interestingly, the last team to win the title before the Magis Eagles went on a four-peat is UC Main.(CCM)
