THE Commission on Elections-Central Visayas (Comelec 7) has reminded both winning and losing candidates to begin clearing out their campaign posters, tarpaulins, and other paraphernalia following the conclusion of the May 2025 midterm elections.
Comelec-7 regional director Francisco Pobe Jr. said candidates should take the initiative to remove their materials without waiting for formal orders. He emphasized that it is their responsibility now that the elections have ended.
"Maging responsable naman na tanggalin na natin ating mga propaganda materials dahil it already served its purpose," he said.
He noted that the presence of campaign materials long after election day contributes to visual pollution and environmental waste, particularly since many of the items are made from non-biodegradable materials.
According to him, the Comelec has already coordinated with local government units to help monitor and facilitate the cleanup.
Pobe added that removing campaign materials is part of showing accountability and respect for public spaces, regardless of whether a candidate won or lost.
Pobe also reported that voting in Central Visayas proceeded smoothly despite the misdelivery of 183 ballots in parts of Cebu and Bohol.
He said the issues were quickly addressed and did not delay the opening of precincts.
Police also recorded a peaceful election day, with minor incidents including 10 gun ban arrests and two liquor ban violations.(MyTVCebu)
