Coaching seminar set as Gov’s Cup nears
BENCH tacticians tasked to lead their respective teams in the upcoming Cebu Governor's Cup 18-Under basketball tournament will have the chance to sharpen their skills through a coaching seminar that will be led by one of the country’s noted coaches.
The Cebu Provincial Sports Commission (CPSC), led by its chairman Dr. Rhoel Dejano, is bringing in veteran head coach Sandy Arespacochaga for a coaching lecture on Aug. 21, at the Ballroom Dance Hall of the Cebu City Sports Center.
As head coach of Batang Gilas Women’s Youth and assistant coach of TNT Tropang 5G in the Philippine Basketball Association, Arespacochaga will be sharing valuable inputs as coaches in Cebu prepare for the upcoming province-wide tournament.
The coaching seminar will be conducted in partnership with the Cebu City Sports Commission and Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) Zone 8, which is headed by Popoy Navarro.
Dejaño, who also heads the CCSC, said the seminar will be free of charge.
“This seminar is a collaborative activity. This is an open seminar where participants can ask or share their insights,” said Dejaño.
Dejano said the activity is a big boost for the local basketball community as it will help the development of coaches in the province.
The coaching lecture was finalized a few weeks before the Governor’s Cup tips off.
Dejaño said a total of 45 teams representing cities and municipalities in Cebu have signed up for the tournament that will start on September 26.(CCM)
