THE Converge FiberXers continued to shore up their roster in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), finally acquiring a player they have been highly coveting.

The FiberXers secured the rights to Dave Ildefonso from the Titan Ultra Giant Risers in exchange for rookie Kobe Monje and two future picks.

The leaguie’s trade committee approved the trade on Friday, Oct. 24.

Converge had to revise the deal as its initial package was turned down by the league. In the initial deal, Converge offered Monje and its first-round pick inexchange for the rights for Ildefonso.

“Finally,we can now breathe a sigh of relief,” said Converge governor Archen Cayabyab in a statement on the league website.

“It was a tough call. But looking at our young team, we know that we need Dave as his position is also our missing piece. We want to be competitive and give Boss Dennis Anthony Uy a championship and getting Dave is a great addition,” Cayabyab added.

With the deal finally materializing, Ildefonso will be joining his father Danny, who is one of Converge’s assistant coaches.

Dave was picked fifth overall last season by the NorthPort Batang Pier but he didn’t get to play in the league after failing to reach an agreement. The 25-year-old shifty player went on to sign with the Abra Weavers in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League.(CCM)
