DPWH grants employees with 5-day ‘wellness leave’
THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has awarded its employees with a five-day paid leave as a “wellness leave.”
DPWH Sec. Vince Dizon said the wellness leave is meant to promote the well-being and mental health of the agency's employees.
The department order was issued on Feb. 3.
“This policy shall apply to all permanent, temporary, coterminous, and contractual employees, including Contract of Service and Job Order personnel in this Department,” said Dizon in the order per a report by Philstar.
No employee is exempt as long as they work under the DPWH, and the leave cannot be converted to cash or monetized.
Dizon was appointed in early September last year to lead a cleanup of the agency, which had been under public scrutiny due to the controversial ghost flood control project. On his first day in office, he ordered an open-ended ban on the DPWH uniform to protect officials and employees from angry citizens following revelations of widespread corruption.
On Oct. 30, Dizon also ordered a nationwide reduction of the Construction Materials Price Data (CMPD). He said the move is expected to save ₱60 billion.(Iah Jennil M. Mirarza, BiPSU Comm Intern)
