ALEX Eala continued her rampage, pocketing an easy win to advance to the semifinal round of the 2025 Jingshan Tennis Open in China on Friday, Sept. 26.

The World No. 58 Eala dominated hometown bet Lu Jiajing, 6-4, 6-1, to move two wins away from pocketing a second title in her last three tournaments.

The match was close early with the 35-year-old Jiajing, ranked No. 349 in the world, forcing a 4-all deadlock. The 20-year-old Eala then went full throttle, winning the next two games to take the opening set.

Eala, the top seed in the tournament, was hardly challenged in the second set to seal the victory as she brightened her chances of winning another title after copping her first-ever Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) crown via the Guadalajara Open in Mexico earlier this month.

Eala’s semifinal opponent will be the third-seeded Lulu Sun of New Zealand.

Sun arranged a semis duel with Eala by beating her own quarterfinal opponent Elena Pridankina of Russia, 6-2, 6-4.

Eala and Sun are meeting for the second time on the WTA circuit. They played each other in the qualifying round of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships where the 24-year-old Sun triumphed in straight sets, 7-6 (3), 7-5.

Sun is currently ranked No. 146 in the WTA singles rankings with a career-high ranking of No. 39. Eala’s career-high is No. 56.(CCM)
