ARCHER Agustina Bantiloc was solid in her Paralympic debut, scoring a season-best in the women’s individual compound event of the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games Thursday, August 29 (Manila time).
The 56-Bantiloc showed remarkable marksmanship at the renowned Hotel des Invalides in the French capital when she tallied 618 points to grab the 28th spot.
The highest output that a participant could make in the ranking round is 720 points. In the round, archers had to strike 72 arrows — divided into 12 ends with six arrows per set where they have two minutes to shoot all of it — at 70 meters away.
From the ranking round, Bantiloc, a native of Baguio City, advanced to the elimination phase where he will face No. 5 Jane Karla Gögel of Brazil in 1/16 elimination round. Gögel scored 691 in the ranking round.
Turkish Öznur Cüre broke the world record after tallying 704 points to secure the top spot while Indian Sheetal Devi (703) and Iranian Fatemeh Hemmati (696) grabbed the second and third seats, respectively.
Bantiloc was the country's flag-bearer along with swimmer Ernie Gawilan in the Para Games opener last Wednesday, August 28. Gawilan will make his Paris debut in the men's 200m Medley SM7 on Saturday, August 31.
Wheelchair racer Jerrold Mangliwan was also set to begin his quest in the men’s 400m T52 heats on Friday, August 30.(CCM)
