A HEFTY bonus awaits workers of the Cebu City government.

Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia has proposed a P25,000 Charter Day bonus for regular and casual workers, with job order employees potentially receiving P5,000.

Garcia announced the proposal during the City Hall’s flag-raising ceremony on Feb. 3, 2025.

Garcia initially mentioned a P20,000 bonus but later corrected himself, clarifying that the actual proposed amount was P25,000.

He explained that he deliberately set a higher amount in case the City Council decides to lower it.

“So ang Cebu City Council nay muhukom ug ila ba ng dungagan, ila ba ng pagamyan o e maintain... Ang atong kaugmaon, atong itugyan sa mga kamot sa mga konsehal nga mu-approve sa atong bonus,” Garcia said.

The City Council will determine the final amount through an ordinance, depending on the city’s available funds.

The proposed bonus matches what was approved in 2024, when employees received P25,000. However, in 2023, the council approved a lower amount of P15,000 for around 5,000 City Hall workers.

In addition to the proposed Charter Day bonus, the city government has started distributing a one-time P5,000 cash assistance to over 5,000 honorarium-based employees.

The staggered release is expected to continue until the end of February.

Cebu City also began payouts for its livelihood programs, with beneficiaries in all 80 barangays receiving P4,000 each.

However, Garcia did not disclose the total number of recipients.

The city will celebrate its Charter Day on February 24, marking its official cityhood in 1937 through a bill authored by Vicente Rama, grandfather of former mayor Mike Rama.(MyTVCebu)
