SUSPENDED Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama has confirmed the end of his political alliance with his former runningmate, Acting Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia.
The announcement came during the "Panagtigum" event on Tuesday, September 24, in Cebu City.
In front of a large crowd, Rama was asked whether his alliance with Garcia was still in place. After the spectators shouted “Yes” in response to the question, Rama responded, “Then that’s it."
The "Panagtigum" event, organized by Barug Team Rama, served as a platform to introduce possible candidates for the upcoming elections.
However, the number of personalities presented as potential contenders exceeded the typical requirements for a full slate.
A standard slate consists of a mayoral candidate, a vice mayoral candidate, and eight councilors for each of the city's north and south districts, along with congressional representatives for both districts.
During the event, 25 individuals were introduced as probable candidates, causing some speculation about how the team might narrow down the list in preparation for the upcoming elections.
Aside from Rama, other probable candidates introduced were incumbent Acting Vice Mayor Donaldo Hontiveros, and Congressman Edu Rama.
Councilors Noel Wenceslao, Philip Zafra, Francis Esparis, and Joy Pesquera as well as ex-officio members Sangguniang Kabataan Federation President Rhea Jakosalem, and Association of Barangay Captains President Franklyn Ong were also introduced.
Other personalities introduced were Novie Abella, Mae Anne Agipo, Ramon Alcoseba, Karla Henry Ammann, Gremar Barete, Harry Eran, Ian Hassamal, Ernest Herrera, Rey Lauron, Melvin Legaspi, Clyde Limpag, Rex Milan, Maria Pino, Jessica Resch, Kevin Sanchez, suspended City Administrator Collin Rosell and Atty. Mikel Rama
Rama clarified that no positions had been assigned yet, and they still needed to trim the list to form a complete slate.
When asked how they would finalize the lineup, Rama said, "It's up to us."
Meanwhile, Franklyn Ong announced his run under the newly founded party "Bag-Ong Sugbo," which will form a coalition with Rama’s group, creating "Barug Team Rama Bag-Ong Sugbo."
Ong previously ran for vice mayor under the party of former Mayor Tomas Osmeña but said he chose to move to a new party.(MyTVCebu)
