GILAS Pilipinas Girls could only muster a sixth-place finish in the FIBA U16 Women’s Asia Cup, ending their campaign with a 72-103 blowout loss to Chinese Taipei over the weekend at Arena Seremban in Malaysia.

Before losing to Chinese Taipei, Gilas also lost to China, 50-82. The Filipinas ended their stint with a 1-4 (win-loss) slate with all defeats coming via blowouts. Their lone win was a 77-75 squeaker over South Korea.

In their last assignment, Ryanna Roman finished with 19 points and Makena Ramos had 14 for Gilas, which failed to overcome an early 14-26 deficit.

Zi-Qiao Gao punished Gilas with a 26-point, 11-assist performance.

Despite the meager sixth-place finish, the Julie Amos-coached Gilas was able to keep its spot in the prestigious Division A.

Just like Gilas, Chinese Taipei and South Korea also stayed in Division A after finishing fifth and seventh, respectively. After a 0-4 stint, Syria was the lone Division A squad to be relegated to Division B.(CCM)
