VICE President Sara Duterte is still "seriously considering" running for president in the 2028 elections, despite facing impeachment at the House of Representatives.

Duterte acknowledged the challenges of deciding her political future, stressing the importance of evaluating her chances through public surveys before making a final decision.

Duterte said in a press briefing on Friday, February 7, that she would need to take the political landscape into account before committing to a run.

She explained that "it’s difficult to decide without numbers.”

She added that she needs to know the surveys and the numbers.

Duterte, who was impeached by the House on Wednesday with 215 votes in favor of her removal, did not clarify whether she intends to run for president or pursue another political position in 2028.

Her impeachment, if upheld by the Senate, could bar her from holding any public office, including the presidency.

While her political future remains uncertain, Duterte dismissed any immediate plans for the 2025 elections.

She stated that discussions about her role in the upcoming campaign had not yet taken place, including whether she would endorse candidates for the Senate.

However, the Vice President expressed her commitment to supporting voter education efforts in collaboration with the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

Duterte stated they want to ensure that “votes are not sold and that violence is not used in elections,” underscoring her dedication to democratic processes even amidst political uncertainty.(CMM)
