No postponement law yet: Comelec proceeds with BSKE COC filing

IT’S all systems go for the filing of certificates of candidacy for the 2026 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) next week, with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) proceeding with preparations for the November 2 polls.

Comelec Chairman George Garcia said the filing of COCs will begin on September 28 and run through October 5, following the commission’s calendar of activities for the 2026 BSKE.

“We will have the filing of COCs on Sept. 28. Our activities will be continuous. That is why our request is that before Sept. 28, it will be made clear to us if the BSKE will happen or not,” Garcia said in a Philstar report.

He said the Comelec will continue carrying out its preparations because November 2 remains the election date prescribed by law. He added that all electoral activities would immediately stop once a law postponing the polls is enacted.

The Comelec chairman also clarified that there would be no COC filing if legislation postponing the elections is approved and signed.

Garcia stressed that, for now, the BSKE remains scheduled for November 2 because no law has yet been enacted to move the elections to another date.

He said the Comelec needs legislation before it can halt preparations for the polls.(MyTVCebu)
