Police nab motorcycle-riding ‘thief’

POLICE arrested a man accused of stealing the bag of a woman on a busy road in Barangay Talamban, Cebu City on Monday afternoon, April 20.

Police identified the suspect as Carlbenjay Virtucio Barrientos of Barangay Lamac, Consolacion, Cebu.

Police said the incident happened past 3 p.m. while the victim was aboard a motorcycle taxi.

Police said that when the motorcycle stopped for traffic, a man on a separate motorcycle stopped behind the woman.

The suspect then grabbed the woman’s bag and sped off.

The bag contained two cellphones and P40,000 cash.

The victim, a resident of Barangay Canduman, Mandaue City, reported the incident to the police.

Police conducted a follow-up operation and were able to identify the suspect footage of surviellance cameras.

The suspect was arrested in D. Pearl Subdivision in Lamac past 1 a.m. on Tuesday, April 21.

During the arrest, police recovered the victim’s two cellphones.

Out of the stolen cash, only P2,000 was recovered as the suspect claimed that he had already spent P38,000.

A Honda Click that was allegedly used during the theft was also recovered.(CDB)
