Santisima TKOs Japanese foe in huge upset win
ALEX Santisima Jr. pulled off a big shocker in Japan when he stopped former world champion Yukinori Oguni via technical knockout on Sunday night, Aug. 16, at the historic Korakuen Hall.
The Aroroy, Masbate native Santisima rocked Oguni with a series of solid shots that forced the referee to stop the fight in the eighth round.
The 26-year-old Santisima from Zip Sanman Boxing Gym hit Oguni with a one-two combo to the head followed by a body shot. The referee stepped in when Santisima tagged the hometown bet with two more solid hits to the head, sealing the stunning outcome of the fight.
The impressive outing sealed Santisima’s third straight win that upped his record to 14 wins and two losses. Eight of his wins came via KO.
The victory also avenged the loss of Marlon Tapales, Santisima’s stablemate, to Oguni.
Oguni, the former International Boxing Federation (IBF) world super-bantamweight champion, defeated Tapales last April via unanimous decision at the same venue.
Ranked No. 6 by the World Boxing Organization, No. 11 by the World Boxing Association, No. 13 by the World Boxing Council and No. 14 by the IBF, Oguni dropped to 24W-5L-3D, 9KOs.(CCM)
