Stacked Cebu City Collegiate Invitational Basketball Tournament set
SOME of the top collegiate teams in the country will be waging war against each other in the Cebu City Collegiate Invitational Basketball Tournament, which will kick off on Thursday, Aug. 6, at the Cebu City Sports Institute in Barangay Sawang Calero, Cebu City.
Leading the five-team field is Jose Rizal University (JRU), which recently ruled the FilOil EcoOil Preseason Cup.
Gearing for the upcoming National Collegiate Athletic Association, the Nani Epondulan-coached Heavy Bombers will be led by Lawrence Mangubat, the 5-foot-11 guard from Liloan, Cebu.
Mangubat, a product of the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Junior Wildcats , will be joined by Chris Hubilla, Jahmir Eligado, Stephen Garupil, and Allan Laurinaria under head coach Nani Epondulan.
The tournament will also feature the University of the East Red Warriors from the University Athletic Association of the Philippines.
Challenging the two Manila-based teams in the tournament spearheaded by the Cebu City Sports Commission led by its chairman, Dr. Rhoel Dejaño are the multi-titled University of the Visayas Green Lancers, University of Cebu Webmasters, and the Benedicto College Cheetahs.
Schedule of games and the tournament format will be announced in a press launch scheduled on Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 5.(CCM)
