Tough stretch awaits Cebu as MPBL playoffs near

AFTER an unproductive two-game home stand, the Cebu Greats found themselves in a must-win situation as they bid for an outright playoff berth.

A tough stretch awaits the Greats as four of their next five games will be against teams that are above .500.

On July 25, the Greats will take on Pasig, which is fifth in the North Division with a 9-6 (win-loss) card. Their next assignment will be against a lowly opponent as they will take on Marikina on July 30. Marikina is 11th in the North with only six wins and 11 losses.

A heavyweight in the South Division will then test Cebu as it takes on the Quezon Huskers on Aug. 3. The Huskers are second in the South with 12 wins and only two defeats.

On Aug. 12, Cebu will clash with Ilagan Isabela, which sits at fourth in the North with an 11-6 record.

The Greats will cap the five-game stretch with a duel with Meycauayan Marilao on Aug. 17. Meycauyaan is sixth in the North with nine wins and eight losses.

The Greats are currently at fifth place in the South with 14-5record. The team recently played two home games but came up empty on both occasions.

Cebu lost to the Biñan at the Hoops Dome in Lapu-Lapu City last July 16, 78-77. The defeat snapped the Greats’ seven-game win streak.

The Greats couldn’t recover from the sorry loss after they bowed to the Caloocan Batang Kankaloo at the Cebu Coliseum last Saturday, July 18, 76-89.(CCM)
