UNITED States (US) President Donald Trump has released a letter on Wednesday to trading partners regarding the tariff rates for six countries including the Philippines.
Tariff rates of Philippine products coming to America are set at 20 percent, significantly higher than the rate that was announced in April that was at 17 percent. Brunei, Algeria, Libya, Iraq, and Moldova are also facing 20 to 30 percent tariff rates, which would take effect on the first day of August.
In a report by Agence France-Presse, Trump's initial documents released on Monday were not too far from the tariff rates with those that had been set in April. However, some trading partners received significantly lower rates at this point.
In April, Trump set a 10 percent tariff on almost all trading partners, he then announced and then postponed, higher rates targeting many economies.
The deadline of the effectivity for those higher tariff levels was originally set on Wednesday, before he delayed it further to August 1.
