THE University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters and the Cebu Eastern College (CEC) Dragons kept their respective hot streaks going after they downed separate opponents in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) Season 50 Basketball Tournament on Sunday night, Oct. 26, at the Cebu Coliseum.

The Webmasters padded their winning streak to five by beating the University of San Jose Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars, 64-55, in the college division while the Dragons also pocketed a fifth straight win in the secondary action by trampling the San Carlos School of Cebu (SCSC) Baby Warriors, 74-59.

With their searing run, the Webmasters solidified their hold on the No. 1 spot after improving to 7-1 (win-loss), ahead of the defending champions University of the Visayas Green Lancers, who are 6-2.

The Jaguars dropped to fifth place heading into the second round with three wins and four defeats.

Luther Leonard topped UC with 14 points, eight rebounds, and three assists. He was backed by Joseph Arth Nalos with 11 points and Neon Chavez and Niño Jeff Atunay who connived for 14 markers.

Leading USJ-R was El John Lacaya, who came away with 12 points, six rebounds, three assists, and one steal.

In the other college division match, the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats arrested a three-game slide by edging University of the Philippines (UP) Cebu Fighting Maroons, 63-61.

Jerian Marc Abello tallied 17 points, four rebounds, one steal, and one assist while Keith Piodo scored 11 points as CIT-U improved to 2-6.

UP, which dropped to 1-6 record, was led by Andrew Padilla, who collected 20 points and 13 rebounds.

CEC, on the other hand, snagged its fifth win in six games to stay atop in the high school division standings.

Mart Justine Parilla showed the way for the Dragons with 15 points, nine rebounds, three steals, and two assists.

Neil Ashley Ibarita piled up 19 points, seven rebounds, and three steals while John Buslon had 10 points for the struggling Baby Warriors, who remained winless after six outings.(CCM)
