AFTER a string of losses to start the season, the University of the Philippines (UP)-Cebu Fighting Maroons have suddenly gotten into a good rhythm as they blasted the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers, 72-57, in the collegiate action of the Cebu Schools Athletic Fundation Inc. (Cesafi) Season 26 basketball tournament on Friday, October 2, at the Cebu Coliseum.

It was UP’s first winning streak of the season as it won again after nailing a 66-59 triumph over the University of Cebu-Lapu-Lapu/Mandaue Webmasters last Wednesday that ended a winless start and a four-game slide.

The Fighting Maroons built leads of as many as 16 points in the dominant, raising their record to a decent 2-4 (win-loss).

Osias Andrew Padilla, Kenneth Fuller Jr., and AJ De Los Reyes combined for 41 points to lead the Fighting Maroons, who turned a 16-19 first-quarter deficit into a 43-34 lead at the half to seize control.

Padilla finished with 16 points, Fuller dumped 13, and De Los Reyes had 12.

John Anthony Aligaway scored 15 points–the lone player to score in double figures for USPF, which tasted its seventh defeat in eight outings.(CCM)
