Yulo in the hunt for gold finishes in Artistic Gymnastics World C’ships
TOP Filipino gymnast Carlos Yulo lived up to his lofty billing after advancing to the finals of the floor exercise and vault apparatus at the 2025 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Yulo, the diminutive double gold medalist in the 2024 Paris Olympics, topped the vault after tallying 14.750 while also placing second in the floor exercise with 14.566.
Jake Jarman, a British gymnast of Filipino descent, took the top spot in the floor exercise with 14.700.
Yulo opted to compete in just two apparatus as he is still recuperating from a wrist injury.
Health issues couldn’t slow Yulo down. The two-time world champion Yulo sealed his spot in the finals of the vault by first scoring 14.900 and following it up with 14.600 on his second try.
Other qualifiers are former world champion Artur Davtyan of Armenia (14.566), Ukraine’s Nazar Chepurnyi (14.316), Daniel Marinov (14.266), Italy’s Tommaso Brugnami (14.249), China’s Huang Mingqi (14.183), Japan’s Kazuki Minami (14.050), and Mukhammadzhon Iakubov (14.033).
The gold-medal round in the men’s floor exercise is scheduled on Friday, Oct. 24, while the men's vault final is set on Saturday, Oct. 25.(CCM)
