IF HIS latest outing was any indication, Cebuano boxer Reymart “Cebuano Assassin” is definitely ready to contend for a world title.
Tagacanao himself believes that he is certainly ripe for a world title shot, a bold declaration that came after he pulled off a convincing win over Jaysever Abcede in the main supporting bout of the recent “Kumong Bol-amon XX1” in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.
Abecede, a former regional champion and ex-world rated boxer, was totally outclassed, refusing to continue fighting at the end of the fifth round, sealing Tagacanao’s technical knockout victory.
Tagacanao, a prized fighter of the Mandaue City-based Villamor Boxing Stable, hiked his unblemished record to 11-0 with nine of the wins coming by knockout.
Physically and mentally, the 25-year-old World Boxing Association (WBA) Asia Super Flyweight champion said he is good to go if the chance to fight for a coveted world title arrives.
“If given the opportunity, I’m ready for a world title fight,” Tagacanao said in an interview with Sports Ta Bai.
Tagacanao’s trainer/manager Edito Villamor was satisfied with his ward’s latest performance.
Villamor said they are just waiting for that golden opportunity for a world title shot to come. If it comes, Villamor assured that Tagacanao will be there to pounce on it.
“It's a big opportunity if it comes. He will definitely accept the challenge because he is a very competitive fighter,” said Villamor.
The WBA world super flyweight is currently being held by Argentina’s Fernando Daniel Martinez, who is still unbeaten in 16 fights with nine knockout victories.
For now, Villamor and the PMI Bohol Boxing Promotions led by sportsman-lawyer Floriezyl Echavez Podot plan to let Tagacanao defend his current belt in the next edition of Kumong Bol-anon.(CCM)
