JOURNEYMAN Jess Rhey Waminal finally got the job done, ending a four-fight skid by defeating fighting policeman Jusue Bastillada to snatch the World Boxing Foundation (WBF) Silver featherweight title in the main event of 'Bakbakan Tres' on Wednesday night, July 23, at the Barba Sports Complex in Toledo City, Cebu.
Waminal escaped with a split decision win with two judges scoring the fight in his favor, 77-75. The third judge had Bastillada winning the fight, 77-75.
The hard-earned victory hiked Waminal’s record to 17W-12L, 1D, 9KOs.
Bastillada, a policeman assigned to the Toledo City Police Station with a rank of Staff Sergeant, faltered after racking up seven straight wins to fall to 10W-2L, 6KOs.
In the main undercard, Big Yellow Gym’s Arlando “The Punisher” Senoc Jr. copped the vacant Visproba flyyweight title by knocking out Eugene Noynay of Bogo City.
The hard-hitting Senoc kept his unblemished record intact, tallying a fifth straight win, including four KO victorires.
Noynay stumbled to his first loss in seven fights.(CCM)
