THE Barangay Ginebra Kings tallied their first winning streak in the tournament by beating the Phoenix Fuel Masters, 119-112, in the 49th PBA Philippine Cup on Friday night, May 17, at the PhilSports Arena.
By tallying a second straight win, the Kings hiked their win-loss record to 4-2 to stay in the upper part of the team standings. The victory actually allowed Ginebra to force a tie for the third and fourth spots with the San Miguel Beermen, who are also 4-2.
The defeatโtheir second straightโpulled the Fuel Masters down to ninth place with a 2-5 record.
RJ Abarrientos and Japeth Aguilar carried the Kings on their shoulders by firing 25 and 24 points, respectively. Stephen Holt added 18 points anchored on four triples while Scottie Thompson dropped 17 points and 13 assists.
The Gin Kings led by as many as 22 at 108-86 but needed to fend off a late rally by the Fuel Masters, who outscored them towards the finish, 40-27.
Jason Perkins showed the way for Phoenix with 28 points while RJ Jazul and Ken Tuffin produced 18 and 17 markers, respectively.
