PUMPING life into their semifinal aspirations, the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars dealt a merciless 92-57 dumping of the Cebu Roosevelt Memorial Colleges (CRMC) Mustangs on Sunday, November 10, in the college division of the 24th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) Basketball Tournament at the Cebu Coliseum.
The victory cemented the Jaguarsโ hold of the fourth spot with four wins and three losses, creating some separation with the Cebu Institute of Technology-University Wildcats, who are at fifth spot with a 2-3 (win-loss) record.
Leading the standings are the University of Cebu Webmasters, who are still undefeated after six games. The University of the Visayas Green Lancers are second place with a 6-1 record followed by current third-placers Benedicto College Cheetahs, who are 4-1.
Tournament format states that only the top four teams after the elimination round will advance to the semis.
Rookie Alcher Obra showed the way for the Jaguars with 17 points, three rebounds, and one steal. Obra was almost automatic from the floor where he made eight of his 11 attempts.
Lorenzo Saraum backed Obra with 12 points, five rebounds, two assists, and a steal while veteran guard Jay Deiparine added nine points.
Earl Laniton scored 13 points, Keaton Clyde Taburnal chipped in 12, and Redjhee Recimiento added 10 for the Mustangs, who suffered their fourth loss in five games.(CCM)
