FORMER President Rodrigo Duterte is thousands miles away from home but it didn’t stop him from securing a dominant win in the mayoralty race in Davao City.
In a report by Philstar, latest partial and unofficial results from the Davao City elections for mayor showed that the elder Duterte enjoyed a whopping 472,000-vote lead over Karlo Nograles.
The former president, who is facing charges for alleged crimes against humanity before the International Criminal Court for his controversial war on drugs, has reached over 530,000 votes, while Nograles trails behind with 64,000, based on the partial and unofficial results early morning on Tuesday, May 13.
Duterte's son, Sebastian "Baste" Duterte, is also headed for victory in the vice mayoral race, with over 527,000 votes. His closest contender for vice mayor — independent candidate Bernie Al-ag — only has around 63,000 votes.
The former president's eldest son Paolo Duterte is also winning in the battle for Davao City’s first district representative. Paolo has reached about 199,000 votes, dominating Migs Nograles, who is Karlo's sister, who only has 48,000 votes.
The Nograles siblings ran as independent candidates.
In congressional race in Davao's second district, Omar Duterte, the former president's eldest grandson, is leading with over 157,000 votes against incumbent Councilor Javi Campos, who ran under President Ferdinand Marcos' Partido Federal ng Pilipinas. Campos has only gotten 74,000 votes so far.
